Altaf Hussain Hali

Altaf Hussain Hali (1837–1914) was a renowned Urdu poet, playwright, and critic. He was born in Agra, India, in 1837, and was educated in Agra, Delhi, and Lucknow. He began writing poetry at a young age and his first work, Musaddas–e–Hali, was published in 1879. Hali became a prominent figure in the Indian literary world, and his works were widely admired by his contemporaries. He wrote poems, plays, and essays, often discussing issues of social reform and justice. His most famous work is the epic poem, Yadgar–e–Ghalib, in which he praised the works of the great Persian poet, Mirza Ghalib. Hali also wrote a number of biographies, including a biography of the Mughal Emperor Akbar and his contemporary, the poet Mirza Ghalib. He was an admirer of the Mughal rulers and their legacy, and his works often express his admiration for them. Hali was a strong supporter of the Indian independence movement, and was a close friend of Indian political leader, Mahatma Gandhi. He was also a member of the Indian National.
